Free and Easy Sound Editing Program for (Music) Educators

Audacity is free, open source software for recording and editing sounds.

Instead of spending hundreds on programs like Cakewalk (which is excellent and highly recommended), I find that Audacity does an excellent job. If you have a decent microphone ($10.00 or less will do the trick) you can record {a podcast, band rehearsal, etc..} and edit it to your heart’s content.

You can create mashups, mix down to Mp3 using the LAME encoder, add reverb, etc.. Once discovered, this is one open source tool that will be used extensively. And, like NVU for web design, there is no excuse NOT to use it. It’s Free!
